SEB’s Skyline Spiral Sanctuary: A Fusion of Finance and Architecture

The Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken, also known as SEB, stands as a leading financial services group headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden. Renowned for its comprehensive range of banking, asset management, and financial advisory services, SEB caters to a range of diverse clientele across northern Europe and beyond. Among their international offices, they were originally located at 245 Park Avenue; however, in mid-2023, SEB relocated to a portion of the 28th floor of The Spiral in Hudson Yards, situated at 66 Hudson Boulevard East, New York, NY.

When SEB decided to relocate to The Spiral, it sought to create a workspace that not only reflected its rich history dating back to 1856, but also fostered a culture of collaboration, creativity, and excellence. As a result, SEB turned to ModernfoldStyles for our expertise in space management solutions and opted to install one Modernfold Acousti-Seal Legacy single panel and two ZONA 2 single glazed glass wall systems in their main common area.

Collaborating with Fogarty Finger Architecture, known for its innovative designs, and JRM Construction Management, a distinguished name in the industry, we were entrusted with the task of bringing SEB’s vision to life.

The Modernfold Acousti-Seal Legacy single panel system, with its exceptional functionality and superior acoustic performance, was chosen to partition SEB’s conference room, creating two rooms with spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline.

Featuring a fabrication height of 9’11”, the 4 panel system was constructed with a panel width of 3’11” and installation width of 13 ft.

Its 3” panel thickness, paired with fixed top seals and Sureset Manual 2” bottom seals, Modernfold Acousti-Seal single panel boasts an impressive acoustic rating of 52 STC, minimizing noise disruptions and ensuring meetings can take place simultaneously.

To open up the conference room into one unobstructed space, Acousti-Seal runs along an RT100 track system featuring an expandable panel closure method. The product, with an 11 lb hanging weight, can be easily moved with its hand pull.

The partition was finished in FP-S1: Designtex Gamut in stone with heavy acrylic backing, paired with a dark bronze trim and hinge color to add an element of sophistication to the working environment.

Acousti-Seal Legacy was installed adjacent to one of our ZONA glass wall systems, which closed off the conference room from the common area that includes the lobby, kitchen area, and a couple of small meeting rooms. Check out below the way the partition’s jamb intersects seamlessly with the glass front system.

The two ZONA 2 single panel glass wall systems, with their low iron tempered fixed walls and ½” glass thickness allows stunning natural light to filter into the workspace, promoting creativity and employee happiness.

Combined with the floor-to-ceiling views, the 9’6” tall ZONA walls finished with a black powder coat considerably enhanced the visual aesthetics of the office, particularly in the small meeting rooms, where ZONA ensured light permeated the space.

ZONA not only improved the ambiance of the space, but also provided acoustic insulation with an STC rating of 34-38.

Matching the black powder coat, wooden doors, installed and supplied by the millworker, were also finished in Rockwood black suede.

The doors were further constructed with a Sargent MB_LN Rose lever, a Sargent RX8200_71 electrified lockset latch, as well as a card reader and door release.
