Modernfold Delivers Black Belt Flexibility at Vision Taekwondo

From the moment Vision Taekwondo opened its doors in Rego Park, Queens, the studio set out to change lives, one student at a time. Its mission comes alive in a safe, welcoming environment designed to foster growth, confidence, and success for everyone.

With courses for babies through adults, Vision Taekwondo gives people the chance to improve themselves, build confidence, connect with others in the community, and develop self-defense skills.

Their after-school and summer camp programs provide parents with peace of mind, knowing their children are not only in a secure setting but also learning valuable life skills and creating unforgettable memories.

As the facility has grown in popularity, so did class sizes. Different experience levels, overlapping schedules, and multiple sessions happening at once created a challenge: how could the room keep everyone focused, and engaged while maximizing usability? Vision Taekwondo needed a solution that would allow the training area to flex with demand without compromising its welcoming atmosphere.

Enter ModernfoldStyles, working alongside JKM Architecture to bring versatility and performance to the space. Three Modernfold Soundmaster 8 Accordion Doors were designed for the studio, to create a layout that will adapt to instructors’ needs throughout the day.

They fold like an accordion, living up to the name, and can be opened, moved, and set in place within moments to create separate sections. The system also provides the ability to expand the layout for workshops, seminars, or special events, turning a single room into a multifunctional martial arts hub.

With the studio already in operation, each partition was custom-sized to fit the existing structure, enabling a precise and efficient installation. The panels are anchored with fixed jambs to ensure stability and alignment with the facility’s framework. Measuring 8.5 feet, 19 feet, and 26 feet wide, the walls provide flexible division while preserving sightlines, safety, and effective sound control.

When the panels are in use, each class enjoys its own focused space, free from distraction. The layout allows students and coaches to move freely between areas, supporting both independent skill development and collaborative instruction.

For Vision Taekwondo, aesthetics was just as important as functionality. The #5 track system, concealed by a ceiling contact guard, allows the partitions to recess neatly, providing smooth operation and a clean visual transition that does not divert from the space’s purpose. Three splice posts connect separate wall sections where continuous runs were not feasible, keeping the panels stable, aligned, and easy to operate.

A critical consideration for this room was sound control. The structure features a meeting jamb closure with #72 latches attached to the lead post, delivering a 39 STC rating to manage acoustics and minimize distractions.

Blending with the studio’s interior, Modernfold Heavy Duty Vinyl in Silver Dust provides a durable, visually cohesive finish.

The result is more than a functional solution; it is a transformation. The partitions create distinct areas while maintaining flow and openness, allowing Vision Taekwondo to expand programs, host multiple classes simultaneously, and maximize every square foot.
