A Manhattan Masterpiece:
Refreshing Community Spaces with Modernfold Partitions

Nestled in Manhattan’s Flatiron District, this client sought a space management solution to transform their New York City office into a modern, collaborative environment that fosters teamwork and adaptability for years to come. In partnership with general contractor L&K Partners and architect The Switzer Group, ModernfoldStyles customized the office space to suit the client’s vision, creating an environment that embraces warmth, openness, and community.

To bring this vision to life, a Modernfold Acousti-Clear Single Panel Partition and a Modernfold Acousti-Seal Legacy were installed to provide the flexibility to adapt the space daily, ensuring it meets the client’s evolving needs.

Measuring 33’0.38″ W x 8’6″ H, the Modernfold Acousti-Clear divides the room in minutes. When deployed, the partition transforms the office into two distinct rooms: a spacious conference room and a shared gathering place, boosting both functionality and collaboration.

Acousti-Clear adds multifunctionality to the space. Using stainless steel trolleys with a nylon roller surface, the transparent panels glide across the #G330 Right Angle Track System to fold up neatly, creating one large room.

Even when the Acousti-Clear system is in place, the clear tempered glass maintains openness and connection within the office while ensuring separation and privacy. This system has a field applied film on the glass for privacy and its design can be customized. When the Acousti-Clear wall is open, the panels stack on either side of the room, creating a completely open-concept space.

The key switch controls the middle panel, which features motorized top and bottom seals, while the remaining panels have automatic seals that engage through the physical pressure of positioning them together. This configuration is necessary when pivot pass door closures are present at both ends. Acousti-Clear excels in integrating both manual and motorized components to accommodate unique, non-standard layouts.

When fully closed and sealed, this wall system boasts a notable STC 51 rating, effectively blocking external noise and ensuring confidential discussions remain private, giving users a sense of security.

For easy access, the wall is outfitted with two pivot panels, one on each side of the partition, and a locking rail handle, completing this impressive installation.

The panels are framed with RAL Powder Coat in RAL1013 Satin Finish, complementing the overall design and enhancing the space’s aesthetics.

To further improve the room’s flexibility, the team installed a Modernfold Acousti-Seal Legacy Paired partition, expanding collaborative spaces and maximizing versatility.

This 14’1” W x 8’6” H wall runs perpendicular to the Acousti-Clear Single Panel partition, allowing the large conference room to be easily divided into two smaller rooms. Featuring steel 4-wheel ball-bearing trolleys, these paired panels glide smoothly along the #17 HD Bracket Mount Track System.

For maximum privacy, the Modernfold Acousti-Seal Legacy is equipped with fixed top seals, Sureset 2-inch manual bottom seals, an expandable panel closure, and a bulb seal that intersects with the Acousti-Clear. The closure’s hand crank mechanism effectively seals gaps between the panels and the floor, achieving a remarkable 52 STC rating. This ensures superior sound control, preserving privacy between the two conference rooms.

The steel panel skins feature matching hinges and trim in Smoke Gray, complementing the space with a cohesive and refined look. Finished in Modernfold Maharam Tek-Wall Ridge 015 Savor, the panels blend harmoniously with the surroundings.

With the ability to transition from a single large room to three distinct spaces in minutes, these Modernfold installations offer unmatched versatility, optimizing the office for collaboration, privacy, and efficiency.
