Cultivating Creativity: The Impact of Acousti-Seal Legacy at Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center
The Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center (SJJCC), located in East Hills, New York, has been a cornerstone of community support for over 65 years, offering various programs to enhance well-being and personal growth. From health and fitness activities to cultural arts and social services programs, SJJCC aims to enrich the lives of all individuals and families in the community. As part of their commitment to holistic well-being, the SJJCC began the Dr. Gayle R. Berg Center for Psychological Resilience to help provide a safe space to inspire resilience, mindfulness, and creativity.

ModernfoldStyles was proud to play a key role in bringing their vision to life with the installation of a Modernfold Acousti-Seal Legacy Single Panel partition in their multipurpose conference room. In collaboration with TPG Architecture, LLP, and Benchmark Builders, INC., the innovative space management solution features six standard panels and six stacking panels crafted with precision and tailored to the needs of the center.

The Acousti-Seal Legacy system allows for multiple spaces, seamlessly transitioning between three different configurations. Having several options, from a large open area to several smaller, focused environments, was crucial to the center’s purpose of ensuring there’s a space for everyone, allowing for various activities to optimize mindfulness.
The panels stand at 9’ tall, and one panel includes a pass-through door 3’0” by 7’0”. The 3” thick panels are constructed with steel skins for durability and sound control.

The pass door contributes to the flexible nature of the system while meeting egress code requirements that are typically required of the space.

With fixed top seals, expandable panel closures, and Sureset manual 2” bottom seals, the panels offer an impressive 50 STC that significantly minimizes any noise disruption while multiple programs are hosted simultaneously.

The partition system is supported by #RT100 track with dual rotating nylon trolleys, ensuring smooth and reliable operation.

A crank handle was inserted into the panels and used to extend and retract the bottom seals and expandable closer-panel. The trim and hinge color – Natural Choice, is consistent with all system accessories, including the hand pull.

Watch how simple the Acousti-Seal panels are to operate in our video below!
Finished in Modernfold Premium Xorel Strie fabric in the color 819, the panels provide a modern and refined aesthetic. Supplemented by 4’ x 4’ markerboard panels on one side that blend with the selected panel trim color, the whiteboard adds a layer of utility, enabling users to creatively brainstorm, share ideas, and collaborate directly within the space by providing a large, writable surface for those using the space.

An integral aspect of the transformed space was the moss wall, situated adjacent to the partitions to complement the sensory experience of the room. This deliberate choice by the center’s benefactor to include greenery in the space further enhances the room’s calming and restorative atmosphere, designed to evoke a sense of safety, creativity, and healing.

ModernfoldStyles is honored to have contributed to the SJJCC’s mission of fostering resilience and connection. This project demonstrates the transformative power of thoughtfully designed spaces and the vital role of high-quality, adaptable partitions in achieving such visions.
