Acoustic and Aesthetic Harmony at Butterfly Network’s NYC Office

In the heart of New York City’s Flatiron District at 11 E 26th St, Butterfly Network is revolutionizing the medical field with its groundbreaking point-of-care ultrasound technology. Their cutting-edge whole-body probes integrate seamlessly with cutting-edge AI, workflow management software, and a 360° education suite, empowering healthcare professionals to transform patient care.

As Butterfly Network continues to expand with the goal of increasing access to medical imaging around the globe, their property manager, Rockrose Development, partnered with Vocon Partners LLC and Core Four Construction to optimize Butterfly Network’s conference room.

To support their visionary approach and provide a sophisticated space that reflects the Butterfly Network’s mission of innovation and flexibility, Rockrose Development selected ModernfoldStyles to provide a state-of-the-art space management solution.

The project involved the installation of the Modernfold Acousti-Clear Automatic system, a high-performance partition designed to enhance space utility while maintaining acoustic integrity and accessibility.

Among the impressive features Acousti-Clear is renowned for its innovative seal system, which allows both the top and bottom seals to set automatically, connecting one panel to the next without the need of cranks or buttons. The self-activated automatic seals enhance the acoustic performance of the partition, instantly engaging to reduce noise transmission.

As a result of the automatic seals, the acoustic rating of Acousti-Clear is 45 STC, ensuring a quiet and focused environment within the conference room.

Further contributing to the acoustic rating, the installed panels are double glazed with 3/8” and 5/16” thick glass, striking a balance between durability and ease of use. The panels were additionally crafted with clear tempered glass due to its safety, strength, and ability to allow natural light to permeate the space.

The glass panels have a hanging weight of just 10 lbs, facilitating more effortless operation and reducing structural stress on the mounting surfaces to guarantee long-term stability and performance.

The panels can be moved along a G330 Right Angle track system, allowing smooth and efficient transitions between open and closed. Finished with a white powder coat to provide a clean and professional look, the track system additionally features a unique pivot panel closure with reverse stack, which stacks the panels on one side while the door stacks alone on the opposite side. This non-standard stacking method was selected to optimize space efficiency and enhance accessibility.

On the door, a locking lever handle and mortise cylinder were added for security and ease of use. The hardware was finished in a satin stainless finish to align with the overall design of the space.

Acousti-Clear stands at a fabrication height of 8’ 5.63”, chosen to make sure the product seamlessly integrates with the room’s dimensions, providing a floor-to-ceiling solution that maximizes acoustic separation and aesthetic appeal.

The partition was constructed upon a stainless-steel trolley to maximize durability. Contributing to the partition’s contemporary design was the light gray trim seal and clear anodized frame finish.
