Designing with Intention:
Supporting Community Through Innovative Space Solutions
At ModernfoldStyles, we believe great design doesn’t just shape environments—it shapes experiences. Our work at the Keith D. Cylar House Residence & Health Center, in collaboration with architect Archimuse and contractor PBD Renovations, brought that philosophy to life through the thoughtful transformation of a formerly underutilized space. The result is a dynamic, multipurpose room, complete with Modernfold Acousti-Seal® Legacy Paired Panel partition system, that now serves the people who need it most.
Part of the Housing Works network, the Keith D. Cylar House is a supportive housing facility providing vital services to individuals living with chronic health conditions. As part of a larger mission focused on dignity, advocacy, and community-based care, the team at Housing Works sought a more functional, flexible environment to support daily programs and services.

The goal was to convert what was once a dated common room, reminiscent of an institutional or school-like setting, into a warm, adaptable space that could meet the diverse needs of residents and staff. The space needed to accommodate everything from one-on-one nurse consultations to community events and client meetings. More importantly, it needed to foster connection and privacy, energy and calm, often within the same day.

To enable this multifunctionality, we installed the Modernfold Acousti-Seal® Legacy Paired-panel partition, a robust, user-friendly solution that allows the room to transition quickly between open and private configurations. Engineered with a 52 STC sound rating for acoustic privacy and durable construction, the system was designed to meet both the functional requirements and emotional sensitivity of the space.

Measuring 8′-4.5″ in height and 10′-9″ in width, the partition was custom-fit to the room’s dimensions. It operates on #17 HD Bracket Mount track system, providing secure overhead suspension and smooth panel movement, supported by steel, 4-wheel ball-bearing trolleys that ensure long-lasting, reliable functionality—critical for daily use by staff and clients.

The expandable panel closure method allows for quick and effective reconfiguration of the space. Fixed top seals and SureSet manual 2″ bottom seals enhance acoustic performance, ensuring a high level of confidentiality during consultations or private discussions. A crank handle is inserted into the panels and used to extend and retract the bottom seals and expandable closure panel—allowing staff to easily secure or open the partition as needed, without interrupting the flow of activity.

At 3″ thick and weighing approximately 11 pounds per square foot, the panels offer a solid feel and excellent sound isolation while remaining easy to manage. Each panel is constructed with durable steel skins and finished in Modernfold’s standard vinyl in Bright White, a timeless, clean aesthetic that reflects natural light and fosters a welcoming atmosphere. Concealed SOSS hinges maintain a sleek appearance, while Smoke Gray trim adds subtle, sophisticated contrast to the bright finish.

Every aspect of this system, from visual details to structural integrity, was selected with care. The result is a room that adapts with ease to its many uses: healthcare consultations, client meetings, wellness programs, and resident events. It’s a space that supports flexibility and dignity in equal measure.
