Five Layouts, One Solution:
Modernfold Partitions Redefine Office Versatility

The modern office space needs to be flexible and accommodating, from large company meetings to intimate discussions about what is next in a company. Finding the perfect space management solution to create this type of versatility can make all the difference in how collaborative and usable a workroom can be.

This New York City office required maximum adaptability to create the ideal Town Hall, where employees can collaborate, engage, and take the company to the next level.

ModernfoldStyles was brought in to complete this challenging task alongside architect LGA Partners and General Contractor Benchmark Builders, INC. Two Modernfold Acousti-Clear Automatic partitions and two Modernfold Acousti-Seal Legacy Single Panel partitions were installed to transform this large room into a versatile, multi-functional space. These systems interact with one another to create a total of five different layouts to maximize the flexibility within the space.

Located at the back of the Town Hall is a Modernfold Acousti-Clear Automatic partition. This system conceals promotional screens to maintain a neutral, professional environment and is virtually undetectable while in use.

The panels slide across the 43-foot #G330 Track System with the help of stainless steel trolleys with nylon roller surfaces.

With automatic top and bottom seals, a hand-crank-operated expandable panel closure method, and 3” thick panel construction, these solid laminated panels deliver a 50 STC rating for reliable, high-level privacy.

To keep the system discreet, the panels were framed with RAL 9003 “Classic” Satin Powder Coat paired with a light grey trim seal. The Wilsonart Plastic Laminate in Linen enhances the illusion, allowing the wall to appear as an integrated part of the space, offering a subtle, refined look designed to be virtually unseen when in use.

Only once this partition is in place can the glass Modernfold Acousti-Clear Automatic partition be used. Connected by a movable post, the two systems form a “T” configuration without requiring a fixed post, establishing an acoustic seal between the solid and glass panels.

This installation uses a #G330 Right Angle Track System, as this partition creates three defined walls within the larger space. This configuration establishes a contained room that integrates into the overall environment while offering a sense of separation.

The stainless steel trolleys with nylon rollers allow each panel to glide smoothly, minimizing setup time and ensuring efficient operation.

This installation was designed to provide flexible privacy. Featuring a hand-cranked expandable panel and automatic top and bottom seals, the partition achieves a 45 STC rating, delivering sound isolation and effectively maintaining separation between the small conference room and the Town Hall space.

By incorporating clear tempered glass, the design maintains separation while still fostering a sense of openness and connection to the surrounding space. The RAL 9004 Classic Powder Coat panel frame and black trim seals keep the system simple and effective.

A custom Modernfold corner “L” post was incorporated into this installation through the use of a movable post, creating a right-angle configuration without the need for a fixed post. Secured with a foot bolt, it locks firmly into place, providing optimal support.

With safety as a top priority in this large room, panic hardware was installed on each of the three walls, a feature that allows users to exit the space quickly and easily.

Within the Modernfold Acousti-Clear systems, two Modernfold Acousti-Seal Legacy partitions were installed to utilize the space to the utmost potential.

At 27 feet long, the shorter fabric-wrapped wall meets the other wall at a perpendicular junction, featuring an expandable bulb seal. This wall must be set up before the second 31-foot system can be used in conjunction with the first.

The dual rotating nylon trolleys glide across the #RT100 aluminum track system, providing users with ease of movement.

This system offers the flexibility needed for multiple applications, with privacy built in as a key feature. Its 52 STC rating, achieved through fixed top seals, Sureset manual 2” bottom seals, and a hand-cranked expandable panel closure, effectively minimizes sound transfer, ensuring conversations and activities remain private.

The full-height cork panel facing is finished with Modernfold Maharam Tek-Wall Truss 001 Stone and black trim seals, providing a professional and streamlined appearance.

All four partitions tuck away behind matching pocket doors furnished and installed with Natural Choice trim and hinges.

From the initial area, this solution allows the space to be reconfigured into up to five distinct layouts.

This installation gave the Town Hall of this New York City office unparalleled flexibility, allowing the space to adapt to the client’s ever-changing requirements.
