Modernfold Glass Wall System Revitalizes Workspace Dynamics at PA Architectural Firm

Founded over 30 years ago, Heckendorn Shiles Architects is a firm that ModernfoldStyles recently had the pleasure of working with to help modernize their office space in Wayne, PA. The architectural firm completes a variety of project types, with recent work including renovations to Philadelphia landmarks such as the Cira Centre, Wells Fargo Arena, and the Philadelphia Flyers Practice Facilities.

Delivering innovative and powerful designs, ModernfoldStyles collaborated with Heckendorn Shiles as the architect and Abate Construction as the contractor during the installation of a Modernfold 362 SR-DRS Single Panel Glass Wall System in the firm’s first-floor conference room.

Separating the conference room from the kitchen area, the Modernfold 362 SR-DRS was constructed with clear glass and a panel thickness of .50”, offering an acoustic rating of 18 STC. The glass panels were additionally built with a translucent film in its center to provide the conference room with a measure of privacy.

The five-panel glass system is 18’-1” across in width and stands 8’ high, fitting perfectly in the office space.

Its glass elements were wrapped in black anodized finish frames, refreshing the space with a modern look while retaining consistency with other areas of the office. The panels hang at 7.5 lbs and can be easily operated with its pivot panel closure method.

To further emphasize its ease of use and to match the panel frame, 12-inch back-to-back handles in a black anodized finish were built into the structure.

Hanging from a #17G steel track, interlocking floor bolts engage adjacent panels to stabilize them and keep them positioned properly within the opening. The support structure for this wall is entirely made of wood and features a fully operable glass partition without a floor track. This is a unique and uncommon design for Modernfold.

Modernfold 362 SR-DRS can be positioned as closed or adjusted to a fully open position, where the panels stack neatly against the wall without interfering with the rest of the space.
