SURDNA FOUNDATION RENOVATION
A FOCUS ON FLEXIBILITY
The Surdna Foundation, dedicated to fostering sustainable communities in the United States, began planning its relocation to a new office in New York City. The non-profit was eager to create a modern space where it could continue to carry out its philanthropic mission well into the 21st century.
THE DESIGN
Spector Group‘s architectural plans employed a modern design creating a more dynamic, open and flexible space. The 12,640 sq. ft. office is designed to reflect the organization’s values and inspire its team to do its most creative work. Having excellent natural light and stunning views of the city were also important goals for the office.
FLEXIBILITY
To provide the necessary space flexibility the Surdna Foundation was seeking, the design specified a 23.5 ft. Modernfold Acousti-Clear acoustical glass partition to be installed in the office’s conference room. The ability to rapidly reconfigure the space by operating the partition provides staff an expansive range of collaborative possibilities…open when space is needed for large gatherings and closed for spontaneous meetings. Paul Nascimento of the Spector Group commented, “The Acousti-Clear was the perfect solution for the client’s needs.”
The sleek tempered glass panels allow light to freely flow between the conference room and the surrounding office creating a sense of openness. The clean lines of the partition’s aluminum vertical stile, finished with a RAL black powder coating, provide contemporary elegance and visual impact. With a 45 STC rating and automatically engaging seals, the partition provides the acoustical sound control required for confidential situations such as executive-level meetings.
The Surdna Foundation realized its vision for a modern, flexible workspace. The inclusion of a Modernfold glass partition offers a multitude of space configurations based on changing situations. Architect Nascimento further commented, “Erika Becker of ModernfoldStyles was an invaluable asset for this project. Her input facilitated the design process for incorporating the Acousti-Clear partition into the conference room.”
